FAQs

What is Nexstep?

It is a non-profit-making club run by volunteer members for single people who are looking to make friends and socialise.

Who can join?

We are open to single people of both sexes.

Can I join if I am living with someone?

No, the club is not for people already in relationships.

Can you help me find a partner?

No, we are not a dating agency. We are a group of single people, some of whom have been married previously, who want to meet other single people of both sexes to make friends and socialise. Naturally, some members do form relationships, some of which become permanent.

Are there any age restrictions?

Not at all.

How long has Nexstep been going?

We used to be part of the Nexus singles club network but this went into administration in Nov 2012 due to the death of its founder. Nexstep was started up as an independent, non-profit-making club by the former members of the Cleveland branch of Nexus.

How many members are there?

We currently have about 85 members.

Who runs the club?

The club is run by a Management Committee of volunteer members who give up their own time to make the club a success.

What sort of people are members?

We have members from all walks of life. Currently, there are more women than men. We are an active bunch who like to enjoy life and are always looking for likeminded new members.

What area does the club cover?

Most members are from Teesside & East Cleveland but there are no restrictions on where you live, we have members as far afield as Bishop Auckland.

What does the club do?

The club offers you the opportunity to meet new friends and widen your social life. We have a weekly club night, giving members a chance to catch up on the latest gossip and find out what social events are coming up. A wide variety of social events are also organised by the members themselves, especially at weekends. A list is available at the club night, via email or the on our web site. These events are not organised for profit.

You can see a list of our current and past activities in the Activities section of the website. There is also information on our most recent events.

When and where is the club night?

Our regular club night is every Wednesday from 7.30pm at the Eston & Normanby Social Club, 30 High Street, Eston, TS6 0QU.

How much does it cost?

Full membership is £40 per year but there is a sliding scale depending on when in the year you join.

How do I join?

Contact us by phone or email. Alternatively, you can come along to the regular club night at Eston & Normanby Social Club on Wednesdays from 7.30pm and join there.

Can I try it before joining?

You can take out a 3 month temporary membership for £10 so you can sound us out. This will be refunded if you join subsequently. Please note, temporary members cannot access the Members area of the web site.

Do I need to do anything?

Bearing in mind Nexstep is a non-profit-making club run mainly by the effort of its volunteer Management Committee, we hope that all the members will contribute something towards the club in the way of organising occasional events. This is easy to do and the Event’s Co-ordinator will help you.

How do I find out about events?

These are posted on the Members page on our web site as well as being emailed out or available as printouts at bar nights.

How do I join in at events?

Either put your name down on the event sheet at the bar night or contact the event organiser direct.

Can I bring a friend?

Not usually, it depends on what the event is – some are open but you need to check.

Do you have links to other organisations?

We did have links to some other ex-Nexus clubs but sadly most of these have now folded.

I am nervous about going into a club on my own can you help?

Of course. We have a team of Welcomers who we can put you in touch with. If you wish, a Welcomer will meet you at the door. They will explain how the club works, introduce you to other members and try to make your evening as pleasant as possible.

Can I talk to someone about the club?

Of course, just call Judy on 07914 350250.
